This month marks three years since my husband and I separated but we are still not divorced. I am proud of how I have evolved over the past three years and for where I am heading. It is a work in progress and I am learning so much about myself on this journey!
On to The Laundry Room…last month, I had the opportunity to purchase several used washers and dryers from a laundromat that recently went out of business. The reason that I decided on used versus new is because I simply don’t have the means to pay for brand new equipment right now. When the phone call came, I had to make a quick decision so I jumped on it.
Now those machines sit in storage because the credit card terminals that are needed to operate them have a 30-week delay. Ugh!! To pull the trigger on an investment and then have it sit there for seven or eight months is incredibly frustrating! But it is what it is so I simply accept.
One valuable piece of advice that I would like to share is to have your insurance policy reassessed. With the additional equipment I am installing and the increased cost to replace (due to Covid shortages and inflation) should it be damaged or destroyed, I realized that my current policy would not be adequate coverage. Furthermore, if you don’t already have Business Interruption Insurance which helps replace lost income in the event of a loss, you might want to check into that.
A little something that I’m a little embarrassed to admit is that I am the queen of piles. You too? Well, at this point, I probably have you beat! A pile on the kitchen counter, a couple of piles on my desk in my bedroom. The piles get moved around or combined into a larger pile that ends up in my desk drawer. Lately, the piles have grown to be an unbearable task that I keep putting off. “Next weekend” I think. And then next weekend comes and I do everything else except organize the piles. I can check off other to-do’s on my list but cannot even begin to think about that one.
If you’ve read some of my previous blog posts, you know that I am a huge fan of podcasts. My newest favorite is Mel Robbins. I haven’t picked up either of her books yet but I have implemented “The 5-Second Rule” into my daily life. It is pretty powerful at getting me motivated on things that I have typically procrastinated on… like my piles! Rather than aiming to clear my whole pile in one day which can seem daunting and overwhelming, I say to myself, “I am going to sit down and do five minutes of filing. 5, 4, 3, 2, 1… go!” The awesome thing is that five minutes of filing can turn into 20 minutes and then I feel awesome for making a dent. Follow Mel on Instagram @melrobbins or listen to her podcast on Audible.
From one mom to many others… if you’re feeling stuck with anything, I urge you to give The 5-Second Rule a try. So far it’s working for me and it could be the perfect trick to get you motivated and moving.
Have a wonderful Mother’s Day relaxing solo or sharing it with loved ones. Thank you for reading!
